The legal profession is an inherently challenging field requiring its members to  zealously fight to overcome challenges for both their clients and alternatively themselves. The intense demands of the profession combined with the high rates of substances use and mental health issues confirmed by recent studies makes cultivating healthy skills for overcoming the challenges and stressors of our field a MUST. Participants in this program will learn what LAP is, why attorneys are a vulnerable population, the long term impact of the pandemic on the workforce and on people in general, how to engage in self care while doing this work, and how to maintain health and wellness in one’s professional and personal life especially given the current state of the world and the nation.

Dr. Diana Uchiyama

Before joining LAP, she was the Administrator of Psychological Services for DuPage County, worked as a Staff Psychologist and Juvenile Drug Court Coordinator for Kane County. She has a Certified Advanced Alcohol and Drug Counselor, and an Advanced Mindfulness Training Certificate. She has a masters and doctorate in Clinical Psychology and practiced law as a Cook County Assistant Public Defender.

ANNUAL BOARD ELECTION MEETING INFORMATION

Pursuant to Article III, Section 1 of the IRELA bylaws, “…An annual meeting of the members shall be held on the second Wednesday of January of each year for the purpose of electing directors and for the transaction of such other business as may come before the meeting…” The annual meeting will take place on January 10 at 8:00 am, immediately preceding the monthly CLE. There are three open board positions, and the Nomination Committee has recommended that Leanne Klein, Erica Minchella, and Adam Wilde be nominated for 3-year terms. If you would like to make a nomination for another candidate, please contact info@irela.org by 5 pm on January 7.

The election poll, will be open in the Zoom meeting for exactly 5 minutes, starting at 8:10 a.m. and ending at 8:15 a.m. If you wish to vote, you must be in attendance on the Zoom meeting - NO EXCEPTIONS will be made for late arrival or technical difficulties, so please plan accordingly. To avoid any issues or interruption, we recommend being in a location with stable internet connection, logging into the meeting early, and using an appropriate Zoom compatible device (laptop, desktop computer, Zoom app on smartphone) to avoid any technical difficulties.
