Richard F. Bales

Dick Bales is underwriting counsel for the Naperville office of Proper Title. He has worked in the title insurance industry since 1977. He graduated from Illinois College in Jacksonville in 1973. He received his juris doctorate degree from Northern Illinois University in 1983. In the summer of 2023 IRELA gave Bales its Lifetime Achievement award.

PART I: The ALTA 2021 Title Policies, with Richard Bales

For more than a few years Illinois title insurance companies have been issuing the ALTA 2006 title policies to attorneys.

They will not be doing this much longer. The American Land Title Association will be decertifying the 2006 title policy forms effective January 1, 2004. Title companies are already issuing the 2021 owners and loan title policies.

There are no monumental changes or new coverages contained in the 2021 policies. There are, though, a few changes. Some attorneys may even feel that these changes are significant. Dick Bales will be talking about these new changes in this presentation.
